Choreography Made For You, Inspired by art

Here’s a behind the scenes peak at how I create choreography for our classes and events that are designed for you. Lately I’ve been enjoying creating art from an inspired, present place using a song that gets me moving and also fills something emotionally resonant for me. I know that if it resonates with me, at this point in time, then others can feel its validity and significance too.

Once I’m in the studio, I meditate to connect to the space and my body, then move however I wish in an improvisational warm-up. Next, I put the song of choice on repeat and don’t judge what moves come out. I repeat movements a lot to understand each move fully before I string them together to set parts of the music.

Once I create a piece of art that I know I want to share for a class or a workshop, I take into consideration the bodies and abilities of those joining me. I take some key movements from the art, and transcribe it so those dancing along side me can feel the same essence, the same freedom, that I felt during the creative process.

Want to learn some of these moves?! This full dance is on the Wellness Membership (online) and will also be taught in part during the NYC dance wellness event (in-person).
